Grand Cul de Sac is the family quarter of Saint Barth, three miles from Gustavia and fifteen minutes from Saint Jean.
Its lagoon is closed off by a coral reef: the water stays shallow a long way out, always calm, and turtles pass a few feet from the sand.
Three hotels line the bay, which means restaurants, loungers and two watersports outfitters on site.
One caveat, and it counts: the wind blows here almost constantly.
That is what makes it a well known kitesurfing and windsurfing spot, with a school on the beach for teenagers, but if you want flat water to read beside, this is not it.
A villa rental in Grand Cul de Sac is the obvious answer with young children.
